Who can apply:

Students from the new EU countries (i.e. Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia.)

Applicants must be min. 17½ years of age and citizen + resident of one of the before mentioned countries.

English skills required.

Danish skills not a necessity.

 

School starts:

January 31^st, 2010

Duration: 19 weeks

 

Prices:

With a scholarship, the price will be reduced to approx. 5000 dkr (approx. 670 Euros) for the whole stay.

 

The price includes:

Full room & board + tuition (19 weeks)

A study trip abroad (in the spring we are going to Amsterdam)

 

The price does not include:

Travel expenses to and from the school

Pocket money

Student’s private trips

The additional trips offered by the school towards the end of the programme (to either the US or the UK.)

About…..

The school:

Ryslinge Højskole (Folk High School) is one of the oldest of its kind in Denmark and dates back to the mid-19^th century. The beautiful old school is situated on the island of Funen (Fyn) amidst some of the finest countryside Denmark has to offer, yet not far from the city of Odense or the quaint coastal town of Svendborg. From Odense, there is easy access to the rest of the country.

Students live in the old buildings, in which you also find the dining hall, the assembly hall, the library and the administration office. Newer buildings offer facilities such as a lounge area for the students, creative workshops (arts, photography, design, music studio, etc.), a theatre hall and a sports hall, as well as a large, beautiful park.

Student rooms are singles or doubles, all with toilet and shower.

There is wireless internet access in the rooms and throughout the school. It is a good idea to bring your own computer.

 

The courses:

Ryslinge Folk High School is a project-oriented school. Our philosophy is that you will come here with an idea for a project, and you will leave with a product, having grown both professionally and personally in the process. A stay here is a journey from an idea or a dream towards a goal. No matter where you are in life, what you want, and where you wish to go, we will help you get there. The only requirement is that you have an idea for a project and the will to reach your aim.

Your project is individually defined – only you know exactly what your dreams are. At Ryslinge we believe that all people have something to offer. Our job is to provide you with the opportunity to realise your dreams. Maybe you want to write, or sing. Maybe you want to arrange a big concert or an art exhibition. Together we will make your ideas reality. We do not make projects for fun, but conceptualise, develop, and execute genuine, professional projects. 

The principal focus at Ryslinge is therefore the project course, which covers project development and management, financing and market analysis as well as motivation training and workshops on the art of giving and receiving critique. The teaching is based on lectures as well as open dialogue. Moreover, you will receive personal instruction on your project. Once or twice a week, you will meet up with your project supervisor, who will assist you in analysing, describing, and developing your project, help you with the planning of the project, and guide you through the process of executing your plan.

At Ryslinge, we also offer the following courses:

• Primary courses: Photography or the USA
• Music
• Arts
• Sports and the Outdoors
• Culture classes

 Before your arrival, you will choose a primary course (Photography or the USA). All classes at Ryslinge are taught in Danish and English, except the course on the USA, which is an international class, taught in English only.
